Jiuzhaigou to Partially Reopen to Tourists On.Mar.8 2018

China's Jiuzhaigou national park, one of Sichuan Province's UNESCO World Heritage Sites, will partially reopen to tourists on March 8 after being hit by a 7.0 magnitude earthquake in August 2017.

Some of the park's popular sites, including the Nuorilang Waterfall, which was reduced to a pile of mud in the earthquake, Long Lake, Mirror Lake, Five-Colour Lake and the Shuzheng Lakes, will once again be open to the public, the Ngawa Tibetan and Qiang Autonomous Prefecture's government announced on its website yesterday.

To protect the site, only 2,000 visitors will be admitted to the park each day, whereas some 20,000 tourists were allowed in daily before the earthquake.

In March, visitors will pay an entry fee of 40 yuan (US$6.3), but tickets will cost 110 yuan (US$17) between April and mid-November.

The earthquake, which occurred on Aug 8, 2017, claimed at least 24 lives, injured 493 and caused widespread damage, before triggering landslides in the surrounding areas.
Jiuzhaigou, which means 'Valley of Nine Fortified Villages', ps 72,000 hectares and takes its name from the nine Tibetan villages than run along its length.
Jiuzhaigou was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1992.
